During my very first visit to Castle French Farm, two things became apparent: The first was that Bill had a deep and abiding love for both his land and his horses. The other was that his story was not going to end well for any of them.

And that is where my version of this story begins.

My name is Sara Fleming, and I lived this story. Many things happened, both good and bad, but we all learned a lot from the horses and from each other. I hope to share with you all some of the wisdom the horses shared with us along the way, but also how human compassion can help us accomplish miracles, no matter our differences.

I won’t get all the facts exactly right: some names were changed to protect the good (and the bad); some characters are amalgamations of multiple people; some complicated events have been simplified; and I don’t remember all the dialogue exactly as it happened. Regardless, at their heart, these stories are true accounts of my experiences at the farm.
